John R. Connolly is an Emeritus Professor of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, California. He received his Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Marquette University in 1971. He taught for forty years at LMU, (1971-2011) and two years at Loyola University in New Orleans (1965-67). He served as chair of the department at LMU for twelve years. During his career he has been actively involved in a couple of professional societies including the College Theology Society, the Catholic Theological Society of America, and the John Henry Newman Association of America, where he served as president for two years (2013-2015). He has taught, done research, presented papers, and published in the areas of faith, revelation, spirituality, belief and unbelief, Liberation Theology, and Newman studies. In addition to a number of articles and chapters in books, his publications include the following books, Dimensions of Belief and Unbelief (University Press of America, 1980), John Henry Newman: A View of Catholic Faith for the New Millennium (Lanham, MD: Rowman and Littlefield, 2005), and co. edited with Brian W. Hughes, Newman and Life in the Spirit: Theological Reflections on Spirituality for Today (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2014).
